Despite a commitment to good governance, the Great Green Wall for the Sahara and the Sahel Initiative (GGWI) has experienced critical implementation and coordination challenges.

For the initiative to be carried out successfully, effective implementation will require more transparency, participation, accountability, and integrity.

If these challenges are addressed, the GGWI has the potential to become a powerful force for sustainable development in the Sahel region and beyond.

Le projet de la Grande Muraille verte au Niger intitulé "Systèmes Alimentaires Inclusifs et Résilients" a été lancé ce Mardi 18 Juillet 2023 sous la presidence du Ministère du Developpement Communautaire assurant aussi l'interim de la ministre de l'Environnement.

Chaque 17 juin, la journée mondiale de la lutte contre la sécheresse et la désertification sensibilise aux causes et conséquences de ces phénomènes. Particulièrement impliqué dans ces défis, l'IRD publie la déclaration pour la mobilisation du réseau international de recherche RESET_GMV. Ce réseau interdisciplinaire de laboratoires, coporté par l’Institut, engage une nouvelle dynamique pour la gestion durable des terres et des territoires dans la zone de la Grande muraille verte (GMV), au Sahel.

Bonn, 27 March 2023 (UNCCD) -- Two years on since the One Planet Summit, 80 percent of the US$19 billion pledged towards the Great Green Wall Accelerator has been programmed across the 11 African nations that are part of the initiative.
